- During this hamburger crisis, it's best to save money in anyway you can. I paid a fortune for translation fee of the singleness certificate (letter for affidavit of legal capacity to marry) when I was getting married with my filipino partner. That was because there were a lot of correction and mistakes in the documents. The Philippines embassy did not give me and my Filipino boyfriend much help. They did not even really know exact what to advice us about the Thai-Filipino marriage or Thai marriage law. That wasted us a lot of time and money because we had to go back to the Philippines embassy 3 times to redo the marriage paperworks for Ampur. But if you want to save some money and translate the certificate of singleness by yourself, here are the actual English to Thai translation of singleness certificate issued by the Philippines embassy in Bangkok, Thailand. You can use them as an example for your singleness certificate translation if you are getting married in Thailand.

HOW TO GO TO MBK ( MA BOON KRONG) IN BANGKOK, THAILAND
- Anyone that has ever visited Bangkok, Thailand must have heard of MBK (MA BOON KRONG shopping center). If you ask your hotel receptionists or concierge where to go shopping in Bangkok, MBK will definitely be one of their answers. What is MBK? MBK is a shopping mall that sells lots of cheap shoes, handbags, suitcases, Thai craft products, fashion clothes, pirated DVD (movies, TV series, computer games, computer software, music). There are varied choices of restaurants in MBK. Furthermore, MBK FOOD COURT was voted the best foodcourt in Bangkok. In additional, MBK MOVIE HOUSE is one of the most popular movie house in Bangkok. MBK shopping mall is next to TOKYU department store and a PRATUMWAN PRINCESS HOTEL. They are all connected, seems like one building. MBK is in the same area as Siam Square, the center point of high-end bangkok shopping and the hang out place for hip teenagers. In the same area, you will find other shopping malls: SIAM CENTER,SIAM DISCOVERY,SIAM PARAGON. If you want the easy way to go to MBK, you just use a public taxi or your hotel limousine service. Of course if you want to save some money and prefer to use public transportation, I will show you how to go to MBK, using MRT or BTS.
- MRT is subway or underground service company owned and managed by the government of Thailand. BTS is sky train service owned and managed by private company. So BTS fares are just a little bit more expensive
- than MRT fares. MRT lines and BTS lines are interchanged. If you want to go to MBK, you must get of BTS at the National Stadium station (the last station of Silom line).
How to go to MBK by BTS?
- If you use BTS service, you can find the BTS lines map on the BTS card, on the sky train wall above the exit doors, or on the BTS ticket selling machines. If you are on the Silom line, you just follow National Stadium station direction, not Tak Sin station direction. But if you are on Sukumvit line, you have to change the train at Siam station. After got of the sky train, you look for the National Stadium sign. This might be a bit confusing when you on the other floor and there are so many people (normally during rush hours). BTS Silom station has two floors. If you need any help, the tourist information center is on the ground floor.
How to go to MBK by MRT?
- If you have to use MRT service, look for the interchanged stations between MRT and BTS.The interchanged station are Sukumvit, Chatujak, and Silom. Please bear in mind that the same station of the MRT and BTS (interchanged station) are not using the same names. This would be very confusing and annoying for a lot of foreign tourists. MRT Sukumvit station is BTS Asoke station. MRT Chatujak station is BTS Mochit station. MRT Silom station is BTS Saladaeng station. You just go to the closest interchanged station and change from MRT to BTS sky train. Then follow the how to go to MBK by BTS guide above.
- Using BTS and MRT to go to MBK will save you a lot of time and money for your shopping. The main reason because there is no traffic at all. After you finish shopping and want to go back to you hotel, you might want to use a taxi. Assumed that you have too much shopping to carry. There is a taxi stand at the back exit of MBK department store, next to TOP’S supermarket on the ground floor. Now I hope you already know how to go to MBK by MRT or BTS. I wish you a nice shopping day.

NEXT STEP AFTER YOU GOT MARRIED IN THAILAND
NEXT STEP AFTER YOU GOT MARRIED IN THAILAND
- Congratulation!, if you are already married to a Thai now.How lucky! But the process is still not finished yet. After you get marriaged, the non-thai partner must report the marriage to his or her embassy in thailand as soon as possible. This time, the marriage certificate that you got from Ampur must be translated into english language and authenticated by the ministry of foreign affair in Bangkok. Then you take this Thai-translated married certificate to the embassy of your country in Thailand. You will have to fill out some forms that ask about the information of your marriage such as : your witnesses, date & place of marriage, name and title of solemnizing officer etc.
- Again you must be careful with the translation of your marriage certificate. As I told you in my previous post.Your translation might not be authenticated. This is not because it is wrong.Just that the officers that approving the translation for authentication are all ph.d..But each has his or her own standard. This is the truth.I have gone through it.I gave them the same translated document that was already approved, they said it need correction.I only changed the date.So if you translate documents by yourself (ministry said it's ok if you do),take the file of your transaltion with you.In case if you need to do correction, you just pay for printing.
- Translation fee range between 250 baht to 500 baht.Make sure that they will do correction for free,if there is any.For convenience, you should use the translation service of a company that is close to the ministry of foreign affair.Even inside the ministry has one shop that do translation.I recommend the law office oppisite the ministry of foreign affair, just across the street.Their translation fee is 300 baht per page.It only takes about 1 hour for them to translate my singleness certificate. They also can do the authentication for you for just 100 baht.Very cheap!! I paid 400 baht for the same service. But if you have time,do it yourself. You just have to wait for it.
- The authentication fee is 400 baht per page for normal service. You will get the documents after 3 working days. For express service, the fee is 800 baht per page and you get your documents within the same day.You can ask the ministry of forieng affair to return your documents by express mail service ( EMS) if you do not want to come back to pick up documents youself.

- In my case, I am a thai girl marrying my filipino partner. In order to get the marriage license,I had to waste a lot of time and money during the process. I was so frustrated that I felt discouraged to get married in Thailand. Las Vegas always poped up in my head. Actually, this would not be so difficult if we had good informative advice about thai-foreigner married law from the Philippines embassy in Thailand. I even went to Amphur myself to get all the details about thai-foreigner marriage. They gave me a list of all I need to do. But after visited philippines embassy 3-4 times,I even thought of hiring one of those law firms that offer thai-foreigner marriage registration service.Of course that means more money to spent, less money for honeymoon. It's all in the past now.Thank God!
- First thing to do in order to be able to get married in thailand, the non-thai partner need to get the certificate of singleship. For a filipino,Philippines embassy in Thailand need original of singleness certificate and original birth certificate, both with authentication from NSO (National Statistic Office) and ministry of foreign affair in Manila. For some countries, you might be able to get singleness certificate through the internet. So check with your embassy first. Then you go to the embassy of your partner's country in Thailand and ask for a letter for affidavit of legal capacity to marry (singleship certificate). This letter is very important.Check the spelling of names both Thai and English. These names must be the same spelling as in the passport ,birth certificate(of your child if you already have one),house registration book( for Thai partner).Amphur officer will ask the foreign partner questions about the details in the singleship certificate. If there is any mistakes or missing details that Amphur officer need, you can not get married.
